Vintage 90's Dansk Mesa Sky Blue Stoneware 6.125 inch Tall Jug 48 Ounce Pitcher This listing is for a 48 ounce stoneware water pitcher in the Mesa Blue Southwestern inspired pattern produced by Dansk.  The pitcher stands about 6.125 inches tall by approximately 8 inches wide including the handle and is in well maintained pre owned condition with no signs of previous use.  The Mesa Blue pattern features a Southwest motif with a Cornflower blue matte finish accented with turquoise and blue dots of color at the rims which are glazed rust brown.  Dansk produced Mesa in several colorways, Sky Blue, White Sands, Turquoise, Black and Terracotta, all of which mix and match nicely together. The pattern was produced from 1986 to 1996 and many pieces are still available on Ebay and other "vintage" sites.  The Dansk Designs company was launched in 1954 as an American distributor and retailer of tableware, cookware, and home accessories by Americans Martha and Ted Nierenberg.  The Nierenbergs were inspired by cutlery they saw in a museum in Copenhagen and tracked down the designer, Jens Quistgaard, to see if he would work with them to modify the hand-forged pieces to be mass produced.  The result was the Fjord flatware, and by 1958 the Nierenbergs had expanded their product line to dinnerware, serving ware, teak products, and more.  Dansk brought modern Danish design to American households.  In 1991 Dansk was acquired by the Lenox group. Dansk products are widely recognized for their design quality, with several pieces in the collection at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. From Dansk International Designs Made in Portugal.
