The design for Indian Tree was inspired by a Chinese pattern of the Yung-Cheng period (1725-35). The Coalport factory reproduced it around 1801. It has been an extremely popular pattern ever since produced by many manufacturers including Spode. The earliest record of this pattern at Spode is in 1867.
